It’s not quite central London, but a short bus trip or car journey from leafy Croydon, and Sutton brings you to one of London’s most instagrammable spots – the Mayfield Lavender farm.
In the past, this part of South London was known for its swathes of lavender farms, and people now come from miles around to see this particular spot in June and July every year. It’s a sea of purple that hits you immediately from a distance.
There’s a small charge to enter, and once inside you can meander among the lavender, take a tractor ride, or stop for a lavender themed afternoon tea before buying any number of lavender themed goodies from fudge to scents.
I love lavender and have lots of it in my garden and on the balcony to my bedroom. On the Isle of Wight where I live we have the Chelsea Flower Show Award Winning lavender farm which I visit in the summer, but nothing can ever beat the acres of purple that make up the lavender farms in Provence. My first visit there years ago made me a fan forever.
Sounds lovely! I also have lavender in the garden – it seems only right to carry on the area’s tradition even in a small way 😁
Not something I would expect to find near London! Bellissime! Ciao, Cristina
Grazie Cristina – I’m lucky to have both the city and countryside on my doorstep!
I can smell the lavender! Delightful.
