Turin has been home to much of Italy’s car industry, so it’s perhaps appropriate that it houses the impressive National Automobile Museum (Museo Nazionale Dell’Automobili de Torino – M’AUTO). Overlooking the banks of the River Po, this spectacular building dates from the 21st Century, and was designed by architect Cino Zucchi. The museum has existed in some form since the 1930s.
Even for someone who’s not into the mechanics of cars, this was a great way to spend an afternoon, as the history of the car and its likely future were explored, with models from Italy and beyond on display.
Unsurprisingly, Italy’s Formula 1 heritage was much in evidence.
Have you visited – what was your favourite part of the display?
I love those vintage cars!
They were gorgeous!
I’ve been to Turin on a 20th century architecture trip – there are some wonderful buildings!
Ian, we must have a chat about that sometime. It must have been fascinating!
